ARE SMARTPHONES USEFUL WHEN PERFORMING CLINICAL DUTIES?

Authors of an Imperial College London paper published in BMJ Innovations surveyed 2107 doctors at five UK hospital sites about their smartphone use at work.

A large proportion (92.6%) of the doctors found their smartphones to be ‘very useful’ or ‘useful’ in helping them to perform their clinical duties, and 89.6% of those owning medical apps were using them as part of their clinical practice. With regards to messaging, 64.7% were using short-message-script messaging, 33.3% were using app-based messaging and 46% were using picture messaging.
